Director’s Welcome

Welcome to the School of Dentistry, College of Medical Sciences and thank you for your interest in our program. On behalf of faculty, staff and students, I am honoured to serve as the school's director and lead our efforts to improve oral health locally and regionally through excellence in education, patient care, service, and research. Our school is uniquely equipped to nurture young minds towards acquiring finer skills in dentistry. Since the establishment of the school 15 years ago we have graduated more than 80 dental surgeons, some of whom have gone on to specialize in different areas excelling in their profesional and academic careers, not only in Guyana but also in the Caribbean, Canada, and the United States.

We take professional pride in our work and you can be assured that exceptional dental education and clinical practice is here for you to experience. Our students have always been able to achieve an excellent balance between the theoretical and clinical aspects of dentistry. As early as the first semester of the third year, students are introduced to clinical practice. Additionally, we are ever mindful that academic excellence must be matched by compassion, integrity, and professionalism and that our future depends on producing not only future clinicians but also leaders, academics, and researchers. The five years you will spend as
dental students will be some of the most memorable years of your lives, so have fun, study hard, and aspire to greatness.

The continuous support and collaboration with the Ministry of Health has allowed our students the opportunity to improve their clinical practice skills not only at the Cheddi Jagan Dental Centre but at other satellite hospitals and clinics throughout Guyana. In light of the global pandemic, we have taken all of the necessary steps to ensure the safety of our students and staff by following the strict guidelines set out by the University for the prevention of covid-19 infections. Additionally, we offer a blend of online and in-person lectures in an effort to further ensure the safety of our faculty and students. We appreciate your interest in the school and invite you to visit or contact us for additional information at
